My last three semesters needed some spice so I decided to work part-time at the
Statistics computer labs. It was a tutoring/lab monitor/tech support job, but
the students who pranced into the lab thought I was some sort of a higher-order
being and called me "professor". Ok, maybe not everyone. Only the younger
students did.
My new job kept me from being a library hermit and it opened the doors of
web design. One day, a confused student came into the lab asking me about HTML.
I thought in my head, "Hmmmm … HTML? Qu'est que c'est?" Just remember, this was around
the time when Hotmail first came out. Web design was a foreign topic to me and this drove me to learn about it.
I went ahead and tried to create my three-page website, thanks to Netscape and Geocities.
Then something inside me sparked, and it lit a fire. Indeed, it was love at first site! A new
love affair began to bloom.
